Open World Design

As an open world designer on Ubisofts Tom Clancy's The Division I was responsible for designing and implementing two open world districts Gramercy and Turtlebay together with Will Martin (LD), Dan Hargreaves (Art) and Leo Keenan (Art).

I worked on both districts from initial conception to project ship. This involved whiteboxing the spaces out and then working alongisde artists to make sure the content was as authentic as possible.

Creation Process

During the creation process I made sure that I leveraged navigational means in the open world and gave players options within the space. I added flanking routes, vantage points, observation points and cover support for 4 players whilst making sure metrics and encounter guidelines were adhered to.

Alongside this I added all of the Gameplay elements into the spaces such as encounters, collectibles and side missions. I was also tasked to create an Rational Level Design document which tracked difficulty progression and variety within the encounters.
